Who doesn't want their own music playlist? You can create one for running, one for when you are doing dishes, one for the car, one for a birthday party, the possibilities are endless!
Here is how to create your own on the go playlist using the Amazon.com system.
1. Go to Amazon.com or I prefer shopping at smile.amazon.com, where it's all the same things, but for some of my purchases Amazon will donate to the charity of my choice.
Once you get there, click right where it says "all" next to the search box at the top of the screen, as seen in the picture below
2. You will now see a drop-down menu of different departments you can search in. Go down to "digital music" and click on it.
3. This next Picture shows a few steps
1. Type in the name of an artist, song, album, genre that you would like to find
2. Either select the yellow box with the magnifying glass in it or hit "enter" on your keyboard to start the search.
3. You have two options for this step, you may either click the name of an album to see all of the songs it contains and to possibly purchase all of the songs on the album at once, or you can scroll down and see what individual songs your search found below.
3a. Once you find the song, use either the yellow button next to the lower three arrow to purchase the song, or you can use the smaller shopping cart button to add a song to your MP3 or digital music cart (this shopping cart is separate from the Amazon shopping cart used to buy physical items, you cannot buy physical items and digital music at the same time, they have to be separate purchases)
Note: For this tutorial, I have chosen to simply click the yellow button next to the song I wanted to buy that single song.
4. You will now be brought to a page to confirm your purchase. Note: if you are purchasing from a tablet or a smartphone, then you may or may not have this confirmation page. Often those devices and some computers are set to make digital purchases complete in one step, thus not showing this confirmation page.
When you are ready, select to place your order.
5. You will now see your order is complete. Now, move your mouse over the part of the screen where it says "Hello [your name] Your Account" NOTE; DO NOT CLICK, simply move your mouse so that it points there and a drop-down menu will appear.
6. When the drop-down menu appears, slide the mouse directly down to "Your Music Library" and click directly on "Your Music Library"
7. You will then be brought to a page where you can manage all of your digital music. Check the box next to the song(s) you would like to add to a particular playlist.
8. Once a song or songs are selected, some option buttons above the list of songs become active. Select the one that says "add to playlist"
9. A drop-down menu will appear. You will have the option to either create a new playlist (first option on my list below) to add the song(s) to, or you can add the song(s) to a playlist that you have already created by selecting it from the list.
10. After you have selected a playlist, you will see a bar flash at the top of the screen for a second or two confirming that the song(s) has been added. If you miss the confirmation bar, and you want to be sure the song(s) got to the correct playlist, then you can select your playlist on the left-hand side of the screen and see all songs that it currently contains.
Important things to remember
-Editing music here on your account will send all of the changes automatically to all smartphones, tablets, and other digital devices where the Amazon Music app is downloaded and signed in to this same Amazon.com account
-If you do not see the changes show up in your Amazon.com app, then try the following, in this order, as we are going in order of simplest fix to most complicated:
1. open the Amazon Music App, and check to see if at the top of the screen you see "Cloud Library" if you see "Offline Library" or anything that says "Device," then press on it, and select "Stream Cloud Library" or select anything that says "cloud" in it.
2. Inside the app, select the menu button (three lines stacked on top of each other in the top left corner of the screen), then look for a little circle or gear shaped button. It might be super tiny at the bottom of the screen or it might be clear at the top above all of the other options. Once you click on it, then select "Refresh Your Music Library" or "Sync" or if you see an arrow that goes around in a circle, then select that. All of those things will do the same thing. It just depends on your device what you will see. Then, check if your song is there.
3. ensure that your device is connected to wifi or your wireless service by opening the internet and going to any random page to see if it loads properly. If it loads properly, then go on to the next step, if it doesn't load properly, then you need to address you connection issues before the song will appear.
4. open the Amazon Music App, hit the menu button (the three lines stacked on top of each other) in the top left-hand corner of the page, select "Your Library," then select "Purchased" to see if your song is there.
5. Sometimes it helps to get your app connected to the store briefly, so go back to the menu (three lines stacked on top of each other in the top left-hand corner of the page), then select "Music Store," then "Store Home." Allow the store front to load completely. After the store front has loaded, select the menu button again, and go back to "Your Library" to see if your song is there.
5. You may need to check that you are signed in to the correct account. On the internet log-ins are like addresses, just like you wouldn't expect the post office to deliver mail to your friend if you wrote down the wrong street on the envelope, the internet cannot identify you are the same person if you use a different email or password to sign in.
-To check if you are signed in to the correct account, select the menu button (three lines stacked on top of each other at the top left corner of the screen) and look for a little circle or gear shaped button. It might be super tiny at the bottom of the menu options or right at the top, depending on your app. Check that the person signed in is the correct name.
-Note about making sure you have the correct account. If you do not have any music at all already on your app, then go ahead and select sign out, then sign in using the exact same email and password you used when you purchased the song. If you do already have music on your app, there are a few things that could be going on. You may have signed in to the app under an old account, or it is possible that you have two accounts under the same email address. Amazon has a funny system where, if you forget your password, you can force it to let you create a new password under the same email address, but this creates a whole new account, where the computer sees you as two different people. GOOD NEWS any or all of those situations can be fixed. Here is the thing, if you sign out and sign back in using the exact email and password you just used to purchase music, then there is a chance you will only have access to the music you just purchased and none of the music you had before, because they may be on separate accounts. If you are concerned about losing your music, then I would contact Amazon.com customer support, ask to talk to the MP3 department, and have them check if you have more than one account under your email address or if you have accounts under old email addresses. They will be able to help you straighten things out if that is the case.
